Bank Holiday Burglary Prevention Advice With the upcoming bank holiday weekend and the arrival of warmer weather, we know many people will be making the most of the sunshine, heading out for day trips, visiting family, or enjoying time away from home. While we want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable weekend, it’s important to remember that this time of year can also present more opportunities for burglars, particularly where homes are left unattended or appear unoccupied. We’re asking all residents to take a few extra moments to protect your property and support your local community: 🔐 Double-check your security Make sure all doors and windows are securely locked before leaving the house, even if you’re only going out for a short time. Don’t forget garages, side gates, and sheds. 💡 Make your home look occupied Use timer switches on lights, radios, or TVs to give the impression that someone is home, especially if you are away overnight. 📦 Keep valuables out of sight Avoid leaving items such as handbags, car keys, laptops, or mobile phones visible through windows. Opportunistic thieves often act on what they can see. 🚗 Be mindful with vehicles If you’re away, consider asking a trusted neighbour or friend to park on your driveway occasionally, or keep an eye on your property. 📬 Manage deliveries and post Cancelled deliveries or piling post can signal an empty home. Ask a neighbour to take in items or use safe delivery options where possible. 📱 Think before you post Sharing holiday plans or posting photos while you're away can unintentionally advertise that your property is empty. Consider posting updates once you return home. 👀 Look out for your neighbours A strong community is one of the best deterrents to crime. If you notice anything suspicious or unusual, such as unknown persons around properties or vehicles acting out of place, please report it. 📞 Report concerns In an emergency, always dial 999. For non-emergency concerns or to report suspicious activity, contact 101 or report online.
